Pine oil is obtained by extracting, through steam distillation, essential oils from the needles of pine trees. Similar to Tea Tree and Lavender oil, extracts of Pine are powerful antiseptic agents to keep the skin clean and act as astringents on the skin. Pine oil is also used in aromatherapy as a massage oil.
A pine is any conifer in the genus Pinus, of the family Pinaceae. Pinus is the sole genus in the subfamily Pinoideae. There are several species of which Pinus Sylvestris is the most commonly used. Chemically, pine oil contains alpha terpineol and other terpene hydrocarbons.
