Wintergreen is a small bell-shaped shrub with round leathery leaves, aromatic when crushed and turning reddish in winter. Small, bell-shaped white or pinkish flowers are followed by scarlet berries 10mm in width. Wintergreen is native to North America and Canada. An infusion of the leaves is occasionally taken internally but oil of Wintergreen is used mainly in the form of an ointment or liniment.
